How to Activate Overdraft Protection for Your Wells Fargo Checking Account
If you’re looking to protect your Wells Fargo checking account from declined transactions or overdraft fees, setting up overdraft protection is a smart move. Here’s how to activate it:
Step 1: Log Into Your Account
First, log into your Wells Fargo online account.
Step 2: Navigate to Settings
Once you’re logged in, navigate to the settings section.
Step 3: Select Overdraft Services
From the settings menu, select "Overdraft Services." This will present you with options to link eligible accounts for overdraft protection.
Step 4: Link Eligible Accounts
You can link up to two accounts: one savings account and one credit account. If you link both, you can specify the order in which funds will be used to cover overdraft fees. If you don’t specify, your linked savings account will be used first.
Step 5: Confirm Your Accounts
If you choose to link a credit card account, ensure it is confirmed. If it is not confirmed, no funds will transfer to cover overdrafts.
Step 6: Wait for Activation
Once confirmed, please allow up to three business days for your overdraft protection service to be fully enabled.
Alternative Setup Options
Alternatively, you can set up overdraft protection by calling a phone banker at 1-800-869-3557 or visiting a Wells Fargo branch.
Important Information
Remember that overdraft protection helps cover most transaction types, including ATM and debit card transactions, checks, and recurring electronic payments. However, if you link a credit card account, interest will accrue from the date each advance is made.
