Invest Automatically with M1 Finance
If you want your investments to grow without constant management, M1 Finance’s Auto Invest feature is designed for you. This tool makes investing effortless, allowing you to focus on your financial goals rather than micromanaging your portfolio.
Getting Started with M1 Finance
To begin using Auto Invest, simply open the M1 app or website and log into your account. Navigate to the Portfolio Invest tab and scroll down to the Automatic section. Here, you’ll find the Auto Invest toggle switch.
Activating Auto Invest
Once you switch on the Auto Invest feature, M1 Finance will automatically handle your investments. By default, whenever your cash balance reaches $25 or more, the platform will invest that amount into your portfolio, or “Pi,” bringing your cash balance back down to a set minimum—often $0.
Customizing Your Cash Reserve
If you want more control over your uninvested cash, M1 allows you to adjust the minimum cash reserve. For example, if you want to keep $1,000 uninvested, M1 will only allocate amounts exceeding that threshold, plus the $25 minimum for investment.
Simplified Cash Allocation
After enabling Auto Invest, any cash you deposit into your account will be automatically allocated by M1, focusing on underweight slices of your portfolio to help rebalance according to your financial goals. This eliminates the need for manual trading and offers a hassle-free investing experience.
Set It and Forget It
With these settings adjusted, your M1 account can now operate on autopilot. Just make your deposits, and the system will take care of the rest.
